That is a decent start of the NASCAR Whelen euro series season you would say,
But there was also some bad luck on our hand. But let's start from the beginning.
Thursday was the first open test day at the Autodromo Vallelunga where the team just arrived Wednesday evening.
Straight from the start the speed was there with our new drivers.
in the high temperatures wearing Face masks it sure wasn't the easiest task for the team to get the cars ready for the fierce battles ahead.
Many laps where made and we ran through several sets of tires for the testing alone.
Then on Friday the official testing started.
the First Free Practice was for the euroNASCAR 2 division , where our own Tobias Dauenhauer dominated the weekend.
Vittorio Ghirelli making it a 1-2 for Hendriks Motorsport following within 2 tenths of a second.
Unfortunately Our #7 Mustang EuroNASCAR 2 driver could not make this weekends racing due to Covid-19..
In the EuroNASCAR PRO division we had all 3 cars on the grid.
In Free practice Alon Day ( PK CARSPORT #24) showed great speed over Loris Hezemans who came in second with a 0.312 second gap.
Giorgio Maggi can home 7nd for Hendriks Motorsport in the #18 Mustang, Still finding the right setup and speed after his crash in Zolder tests a few weeks back.
Finally raceday! after a long wait due to the whole Covid-19 situations we can race again!
With the new NASCAR Format we have 1 Division per day..
EuroNASCAR 2 was up first on the Saturday.
And Tobias Dauenhauer continued his domination here in the #50 RZoil Mustang.
He grabbed Pole Position with a 1.40.574 laptime and a 0.328 Gap to 2nd place.
Vittorio Ghirelli (#18 Infitto.eu Mustang) did a 1 .41.238, good for the 4th spot for race 1 .
Time to race!
It was time for race 1 on the hot tarmac of Autodromo Vallelunga.
With Tobias on Pole and Vittorio on P4 the lights went to green.
Tobias had a great start, but Vittorio an even better started grabbing P2 in the first turn.
Tobias could drive away in the free air and had a great pace, Vittorio on P2 put in a great fight to maintain that position and did that making the first race of the season a 1-2 for Hendriks Motorsport as well.
Tobias could drive the fastest lap of the race , also giving him Pole position for the second race.
Vittorio started Race 2 from P4 again.
The start for race 2 went similar to race 1 for Tobias, grabbing the lead and sweeped his weekend with the second win.
Vittorio lost some ground at the start but fiercely fought back to 4th position in this race!
EuroNASCAR PRO Day!
A Day with Good High's , but also some Lows for us.
in Qualifying there was a fierce battle for Pole with Alon Day ( PK Carsport) , Jacques Villeneuve (Feed Vict Racing) and our own Loris Hezemans.
the top 3 was within 0.105 of a second, but Loris took the best spot for the race with a flying 1.40.491 followed by Alon Day ( 1.40.579) and Jacques Villeneuve ( 1.40.596) .
in P4 we find our #7 CataClean / Holley Performance Mustang, NASCAR Rookie and BTCC driver Daniel Rowbottom showing great speed in only his first race.
Giorgio was struggling to get to speed today , leaving a 1.276 gat to the Pole , starting from P13 in the first race today.
Time to RACE!
All cars are on the grid for race 1 and after the National Anthems we are going green for the EURONASCAR PRO season openers!
We knew it wasn't going to be easy in the hot sun and with the tough competition. Jacques Villeneuve had a flying start, taking the lead in the race early from Loris.
There was a great battle for the top spot with Hezemans , Day, Villeneuve and Ercoli.
with only 2 laps to go disaster struck for Villeneuve having to retire the race from leading position , giving the lead back to Loris who took his race win ahead of Alon Day and Ercoli.
#7 Daniel Rowbottom had to retire the race with a broke gearbox where #18 Giorgio maggi had a lot of bad luck this race with a flat tire.
Race 2 we saw Lasse Sorrensen starting from pole after he drove the fastest lap in Race 1
Loris started P6 , Daniel on P7 and Giorgio on P13.
With this very competitive field we could not get to the front of the field unfortunately.
Loris finished P6 , where Giorgio came home in P12 , and the bad luck for Daniel Rowbottom continued when he got taken out by a fellow competitor ending his race early.
But still , 3 wins out of 4 races is not a bad start. but we have to fight harder next races at Circuit Zolder (BE) October 3rd and 4th.
Now it is time to learn from this weekend , and come back stronger ! .
A little Cherry on the pie was the Overall BEST TEAM award.
Thank you to all drivers, Supporters, Crew, Family and Friends.
